Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage rejected allegations that he was rearing an elephant without a valid licence and claimed he was in possession of a valid license to rear an elephant.

He had informed the Speaker, Judicial Service Commission Secretary, Parliament Secretary General and the Government Chief Whip in writing that he had a licence for the elephant.

He also claimed that he had bought the elephant from a person in Meegoda after following the due procedure.

Parliament was informed last Thursday that there was an unlicensed elephant in possession of Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage.(Upali Ananda)
