The Government of Sri Lanka was represented by former Minister of Human Rights and Disaster Management and the present Minister of Plantation Industries Mahinda Samarasingha who explained to the Committee, during a two hour session, that the rights of MP Fonseka had been fully upheld. The former Human Rights Minister had explained in detail the events that unfolded from the time of the arrest of Fonseka up until his trial and final verdict.
The 154 member Committee had thereafter decided that the compliant lodged by Jayawardena was null and void due to the proper legal procedure of Sri Lanka being followed during the trial and arrest of MP Fonseka. (DS)
