‘House might be scrapped’

The main opposition United National Party today warned of the possibility of the government even replacing parliament with an authority to govern the country, when one considered the way it was acting after getting a two-third majority by fraudulent means.
UNP spokesman Gayantha Karunatilleke addressing a news conference said that the government, which was planning to do away with the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) and set up defence ministry- controlled authority in its place, would not hesitate to go even further and do away with the people’s rights.
