Hindi introduction: SLC writes to ICC

Sri Lanka Cricket today expressed its dismay over the playing of a Hindi song instead of a song which reflects the Sri Lankan identity when the Lankan team was introduced during the opening ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy in London yesterday.

Speaking to Daily Mirror Online Secretary of the SLC Nishantha Ranathunga confirmed that he had sent a letter to the ICC demanding an explanation from the ICC regarding the mix up.

“The song that was played was not keeping in line with the identity of Sri Lanka. The entire Lankan cricketing fraternity and the public was dismayed as a result of this and we demand an explanation from the ICC as to how this happened?” Media Manager of the SLC Rajitha Fernando said.

The letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer was sent today.

During the opening ceremony yesterday a Hindi song was played when Sri Lankan Cricket Captain Angelo Mathews introduced the team at the ceremony, whereas when songs from respective countries were played when captains of other nations introduced themselves.

The Lankan team is introduced at 5.25 which lasts till 5.54 (Hafeel Farisz)
