Hikkaduwa attack: Suspects surrender

Eighteen suspects including five Buddhist monks who alleged to have involved in the attack on two Christian establishments in Hikkaduwa handed themselves over to the Galle Magistrate Court today.

The suspects were granted surety bail of one million each by the Galle Additional Magistrate.

The alleged attack on two Christian places of worship was filed as two cases and the Magistrate ordered two personal bails of Rs.500,000 each on the suspects.

The police identified the suspects involved in the demonstration outside Christian establishments in Hikkaduwa which spiralled out of control.

A mob led by Buddhist monks entered the premises of the prayer centre and destroyed property after the Police failed to control the group. (D.G. Sugathapala)
