A reduction of imported vegetables and higher taxes on agricultural imports is to be implemented to help develop Sri Lanka’s local agriculture sector and help improve the livelihoods of local farmers, Prime Minister D.M Jayaratne said.

Speaking to Daily Mirror online, the Prime Minister stated that there should be a reduction on imported items like potatoes and heavier taxes in order to improve Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector and boost the livelihoods of local farmers.

The Prime Minister went on to say that the export market needs more attention than the import market for the country to develop. (ISA)
