The Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) has recorded statements from cricketers Rangana Herath and Kusal Janith Perera in connection with a match fixing complaint, Police said today.

An investigation was launched by the FCID following a complaint made by Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara that two members of the Sri Lanka Cricket support staff had approached Kusal and Herath requesting them to fix the Sri Lanka -West Indies Test Match which was played at Galle in October last year.

Police said the two cricketers had taken six hours to complete their statements to the FCID.

Meanwhile, sources said SL Cricket Captain Angelo Mathews had also been summoned by the FCID to record a statement in connection with this incident and that SLC team manager Jerry Woutersz had also given a statement. One of the fast-bowling coaches of the SL team was expected to give a statement to the FCID with regard to the match fixing incident.

Cricketers Kusal Janith Perera and Rangana Herath had earlier complained to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Anti-Corruption Officers regarding the proposal they had received from the two SLC support staff.

The Sports Minister said one of the two members of the support staff was a close friend of a leading cricketer in the Sri Lankan national cricket team. (Piyumi Fonseka and Lahiru Pothmulla)
