Showers or thundershowers would occur over the Southern half of the country while the Southwestern monsoonal winds over the island would be strengthened at times due to the convergence of South-westerly wind flow, the Meteorology Department said.

The Department said showers or thundershowers would occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces while showers may extend to Puttalam, Kurunegala, Matale and Batticaloa districts too. Fairly heavy rain falls (about 100mm) were also likely at some places.

Meanwhile, winds would be Southwesterly direction with a speed of 20 - 40 km/hr and it may increase up to 50-60kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Jaffna and Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
