Heavy rain and floods

At least 15,914 persons have been displaced and 61 houses have suffered extensive damages and another 232 houses were severely affected due to the prevailing heavy showers and flood conditions, Disaster Management Center told Daily Mirror online

3404 families have been displaced due to the heavy rain in Kandy, Matara, Gampaha, Nuwara Eliya, Moneragala, Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts. Two camps for the displaced are currently operational in Puttalam and Gampaha Districts.

Meanwhile the High Level Road area which connects to the Baseline Junction, Robert Goonewardena Mawatha in Kirulapone, Ibbanwala junction, Thunmulla junction and certain parts of Rajagiriya were flooded due to showers today. 

The Jethawana Viharaya area close to Armour Street, Horton-Wijerama road close to the D.S Senanayake College, Cotta road in Borella has also been flooded today as a result of prevailing heavy rains, the police Emergency Unit said. (Daily Mirror online)
