Heavy falls expected

The Meteorology Department today predicted an increase in rain in the South-western parts of the country with heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm at some places.

Showers or thundershowers were expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts, it said

The Meteorology Department said South-west monsoonal wind would speed up to 70-80Kmph over the country and sea areas at times.


The showers may spread to the North-Western province and to the Hambanthota district as well, The Meteorology Department said.

The Department warned the naval and fishing communities to be vigilant as deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo and Galle would be rough at times as the winds ccould strengthen up to 80kmph at times.
