Hashish concealed in bicycle frame seized at BIA

An Indian national who attempted to smuggle in 775 grams of Hashish   concealed in  bars  of a bicycle frame  was taken into custody  today by the Anti Narcotics Unit of the Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport,  Customs spokesman Lesley Gamini said.

The suspect is a resident of Madurai in India.

The custom officers who became suspicious of the bicycle brought by the suspect had detected the Hashish by the peculiar sound that came out when they tapped on the frame.

Five packets of hashish were found when the officers dismantled the bicycle frame.

After the preliminary investigation the suspect and the Hashish detected was handed over to the police by the Deputy Customs Director J.P. Chandrarathana for further investigations.

Deputy Director  J.P. Chandrarathana,  Assistant Superintendents  Keerthi Abeysekera,  M.I. Razik , M.M.V. Rizvi , H.K.D Kasun  are continuing investigation under the supervision of the Airport  Custom Director  A.K.N. Wickremasinghe. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
