Harin Fernando, the UNP chief minister aspirant of Uva, who polled the highest preferential votes, is to be appointed the deputy national organiser of the UNP on Sunday (28), UNP sources revealed.

This appointment follows a decision taken by the national leader of the party and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to include Harin Fernando in the party’s national politics.

An official communique about the appointment was to be issued on the same day.

Following in the footsteps of former President late J.R. Jayawardene and Kurunegala district MP Gamini Jayawickrama Perera, Harin Fernando was also one who gave up an MPs post and contested a Local Council election. (Sujith Mangala de Silva)
