Western Provincial Councillor Malsha Kumaranatunga asserts that she and her father have no intention of crossing over from the ruling UPFA  government.

Denying rumours that she would join the common opposition she said that President Rajapaksa deserved to serve a third term.

“I believe President Mahinda Rajapaksa deserves to serve third term and I pledge my fullest support to him,” she said.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, Kumaranatunga said crossovers were unconstitutional.

“I know people will not believe me when I say we will not cross over. But we will not.  Many people crossed over for personal reasons.

“Mostly from what I see everyone who crossed over to support the common candidate did so for personal reasons. I respect their opinion because everyone has a right to have his or her own opinion. But I believe it is unconstitutional. That is why my father and I will not cross over,” she said.

Ms. Kumaranatunga said that they were elected because people voted for them and their party.

“People have voted us and the party as well. I do not want to be a traitor by joining another party with the votes I gained from this. For a person to cross over he or she must first resign his post and then join. I will not go,” she said. (Chathushika Wijeyesinghe)
