UNP parliamentarian and economist Harsha De Silva said Violating all financial regulations and laws of this country, the Government is spending public funds as if tit belongs to themt,

addressing a press conference in Colombo today he said the Government invested about Rs.3.3 billion on Greek bonds even though it was aware that the Greek economy had broken down and this careless investment incurred a loss of about Rs.2.2 billion.

Dr. De Silva said the same people who manipulated the share market were behind this racket as well.

“When we raised this matter in Parliament, the Government avoided answering the questions by saying this case was being taken up in the Supreme Court, Dr. De Silva said.”

“If an ordinary person committed a minor offence, he is punished and the case is given publicity but when there is a major racket running into millions of rupees the culprits get away without any punishment or publicity. When we try to educate the people about these financial rackets through Parliament our voices are stifled.”

He said this was why he had convened a news conference to inform the people about the Greek mystery.(Ajith Siriwardana)
