activities such vegetable sales could be a step toward the militarization of the country in the future.

Addressing a press conference, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said that the government had shown its total incompetence in handling the economic and political affairs.

“The government has ridiculed the military by assigning them to sell vegetables. They have other duties to perform for the national security of the country. However, we believe that the vegetable prices cannot be brought down by selling vegetables at some junctions here and there,” he said.

He said, “The military involvement sets a bad precedent. It can be seen as a step towards the militarization. Nobody can approve the military engaging in civil work.” (KB)
