The main opposition UNP today accused the government of contracting money mania by abusing the EPF and now trying to exploit the Samurdhi funds meant for the poor people by way of the Divi Naguma Bill.

“This government has contracted a serious disease. The government does not spare money, lands, treasures and artefacts. We have lost great amount of valuable treasures and artefacts in the past.

We did not experience this sort of destruction even during the tenure of the King Kalinga Maga,” UNP media spokesman Gayantha Karunathilaka said.
He said the Government had given false promises to the farmers in the Northern and North Central provinces.

“The Government had promised to pay drought-affected farmers Rs.100,000 as compensation. Instead, it is distributing various things like chicks, mammoty blades, pots and pans and deceiving the farmers just as they cheated the people saying it will not give nominations to the kith and kin of politicians.”  (By Ajith Siriwardana)
