Gold smugglers nabbed

Customs officers attached to the Bandaranaike International Airport arrested two women who tried to smuggle gold by concealing the gold inside their body. They were headed towards Bangalore when they were taken into custody.

The two suspects were subjected to a special security check as their behavior was suspicious. One suspect is 67 years old while the other is aged 48 and both are residents of Colombo.

They were detected carrying over 500gs of gold inside their rectums. The consignment is said be worth over Rs 2 million.

BIA Custom’s officer said the suspects were fined Rs 100,000 each and gold was confiscated. (Daily Mirror Online)
