Gold in garlic seized at BIA

A passenger was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by the Airport Customs when he tried to board a Chennai bound flight trying to smuggle out seven pieces of gold worth Rs.1.3 million, Airport Customs Superintend Parakrama Basnayake said.

He said that the gold weighed around 324 grams. It was hidden in a bag that contained garlic. A fine of Rs.100,000 was imposed on the suspect and the gold was confiscated. (SD)
