Geetha eying SPC chief minister post

Bentara-Elpitiya UPFA organiser Geetha Kumarasinghe today said that she was going to contest the upcoming Southern Provincial Council (SPC) election with the sole motive of becoming its chief minister.

“A provincial council membership is nothing to me. I don’t need to strive to become a mere council member, Ms. Kumarasinghe said.

She said that some powerful figures within the party had tried to disrupt her political campaign fearing her prospective victory at the upcoming provincial council election.

Commenting on the protest held by a provincial councillor and several Pradeshiya Sabha members against Ms. Kumarasinghe for being the Bentara- Elpitiya organiser, she said that she was appointed by the President and no one could expel her.

“How can a provincial councillor ask me to go? Only those who have not done anything to the people are behind these unsuccessful campaigns. They fear that I would certainly win the SPC elections. Those who protest against me don’t have the support of the people.  People need me so much that some have even told me that they are prepared to die for me”, she said.

“The party and the people have faith in me so no one can disrupt my political campaign by trying to put me down mentally and physically, “she added. (Ajith Siriwardana)
