Bentara-Elpitiya SLFP Organiser Geetha Kumarasinghe said she could also be appointed Chief Minister if a former actress like J. Jayalalithaa could be the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

She was responding to a statement made by Southern UNP provincial councillor B. Bandarigoda who said she was becoming a Jayalalithaa.

Ms. Kumarasinghe said the thought of becoming Chief Minister had cropped up only after Mr. Bandarigoda mentioned it.

“I had no intention of becoming a Chief Minister. But I think it may not be a bad idea after Mr. Bandarigoda mentioned it. Jayalalitha was a famous actress and on several occasions appointed Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister. I’m also a famous actress in Sri Lanka, who even travelled to Tamil Nadu to act in movies,” she said.

Rejecting rumors about a change in Ms. Kumarasinghe’s post in the party, she said she was the SLFP organiser in the electorate and that nothing had changed with regard to it.

“I’m the organiser of the electorate. I have not been expelled from the position. I will be organising today’s group meeting as well. The rumors are baseless,” she said.

Ms. Kumarasinghe said she would organise the march from Benthara to Colombo for the May Day rally. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
