Full skeleton of pre historic man found

A complete skeleton of a pre historic man was found for the first time in the country at Fahien cave archeological site, Pahiyangala, Kaluthara the Director General of Archeology confirmed.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror Dr. Senarath Dassanayake the Director General of Archelogy said that this was the first time a full skeleton of pre historic man has been found in the country.

“ This is the first time we found full skeletal remains of a pre historic man, earlier we found the remains known as Menikhami in Hungama Ambalanthota but it was not as complete as the skeleton we discovered now” he said.

Dr. Dassanayake pointed said that the skeleton can be traced to be over 12,000 years old and will be pivotal for future research. “ the  discovery is vital for future research and can unearth a lot of unknown facts about the nature of man at the time” he said.

The Director General and Dr. Shiran Deraniyagala are to visit the site today to monitor further excavation in the surrounding areas. “ We have to unearth a small part of the skeleton which is currently covered by large stones and we will be visiting the site tomorrow” he said.

Excavation in close surroundings of the skeleton have been stopped due to the discovery. ( By Hafeel Farisz)
