Fuel price reduction not sufficient: LPBOA

Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) President Gemunu Wijeratne said today the three-rupee price reduction on diesel was meant to deceive the people and that it would in no way be helpful to the people.

He said this tiny reduction would not benefit people at a time when world market fuel prices had come down.

Mr. Wijeratne said they could consider a reduction on bus fares if the government took steps to provide concessions on tyres after having discussions with tyre manufacturers.

“Rubber prices have come down. And the electricity tariffs have also been reduced. So the government can discuss with tyre manufacturers and take steps to provide tyres to the bus owners at a reasonable price,” he said.

The LPBOAhad earlier submitted six proposals to the government including the tax relief when purchasing bus tyres.
