Four Indian fishermen rescued

Four Indian fishermen who lost their way when their boat sustained damage due to strong gale conditions in the deep sea were rescued by Sri Lankan fishermen and handed over to the China Bay Police in Trincomalee through the Sri Lankan Navy.


Inquiries revealed that the four fishermen, Gajendra Ramesh (35) Selvam Rajesh (26), Pandiyan Dasappan (26) and Raji Jeyakumar (34) were residents of Indra Nagar and Kasimedu in Chennai.
 

They had left the Chennai fishing harbor on December 4th and were hit by a terrible storm causing extensive damage to the fishing craft.
 

The police recorded a statements from the four men and admitted them to the Trincomalee hospital for medical examination. Further the police were taking steps to obtain a court order to hand over the four fishermen to the Mirihana Detention Unit for foreigners without VISA, for further action. ( Amadoru Amarajeewa)
