Former WPC cheated youth

A former woman police constable attached to the Fort police station had allegedly defrauded several foreign job seekers and it was also reported the fraudulent transactions were alleged to have taken place at the police station.
 
Giving evidence in connection with the incident, the witness Chanaka Chandana of Beruwala told the Colombo Fort Magistrate the suspect’s fraudulent transactions promising to provide a foreign job opportunity in Japan took place at the Fort police station. He further told court that he trusted her so much since she was a woman police officer and money was given to her at the police station.
 
The Fort police alleged that the suspect, former WPC Indra Perera had allegedly defrauded more that seven youth and a sum of Rs.50,000 had been taken from each of them.

The witness further told court that the suspect was introduced to him by another police officer attached to the same station who was a friend of his.
 
The further magisterial inquiry into the matter was postponed till May 4. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
