Former LTTE leader Paduman acquitted

LTTE’s former Trincomalee leader who was indicted on charges of having attacked army camps, assaulting soldiers and killing them was acquitted by the Trincomalee High Court Judge R.Amal Ranaraja.

Siva Subramaniam Varadanadan alias Paduman, whois a resident of College Road in Trincomalee was accused of carrying out the attacks and killings during July 1, 2001 to December 31, 2001. He had functions as the LTTE leader of Palampatar was indicted by the attorney general under the 1979 Prevention of Terrorism Act.

The judge in acquitting the accused said the confession made by the accused was full of contradictions and as such decided to acquit him in the case heard in the Trincomalee Courts for two years. The complaint had been lodged by the TID and state counsel Sugandhi Kandasamy appeared for the prosecution. (Amadoru Amarajeewa)
