Former LTTE carders who were rehabilitated will be monitored for a period of three months after their release, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe said.

He added that they already had started a special project to issue National Identity Cards (NIC), birth certificates and Marriage certificates for former carders who had lost them during the war or while they were in rehabilitation centers.

“We had started 24 centers to rehabilitate former LTTE carders, now there are only 9 centers in Batticaloa, Jaffna and Vavuniya” Brigadier Ranasinghe said.

Brigadier Ranasinghe said that that officials call the former LTTE carders “beneficiaries” and child solders as children. Now there are only 4,500 former cadres in these centers, they all will be reintegrated to the society very soon he said.

Meanwhile, Handicraft creations of former LTTE cadres in rehabilitation centers had exhibited at the ‘Deyata Kirula’ Exhibition. (Rifthi Ali)
