The Hurulu forest reserve fire which affected more than 2000 acres of protected land was brought under control by early this morning and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire, officials of the Department of Forest Conservation said.

It is suspected that illegal hunters may have been involved in igniting the fire which raged from yesterday afternoon and spread rapidly. The fire was finally brought under control with the assistance of Air Force helicopters, Army personnel and the Civil Defence personnel.  (Daily Mirror online)
