More than 100 acres of the Sri Pada (Adam's Peak) forest reserve has been destroyed by a massive fire raging in the area, the Forest Conservation Department said.

Range Forest Officer in Balangoda, Ajith J Kayasinghe said the fire that broke out in the Rathanagolla are in the Walawe valley was spreading to the Balangoda section of the forest reserve.

A request has been sent to the relevant authorities including the Disaster Management Centre to help the Forest Conservation Department to bring the fire under control.

Kayasinghe said Pathan land and the Sri Pada forest reserve on the boundary of the Horton plains were the worst affected by the raging blaze. (Daily Mirror online)
