The Gampha District Court today issued summons on all Directors of Fonterra (Pvt) Ltd Sri Lanka on contempt of court charges for violating a court order. They were asked to appear before the Court on August 23.

The Enjoining Order prevented Fonterra from selling, distributing or advertising its products in Sri Lanka.

The District Judge issued summons for Contempt on Managing Director, Leon Clement, Director Malcolm Smith, Director Janaka Harshadewa Polwatta Gallage and Head of Marketing Anura Kumara of Fonterra Brands and ordered them to appear before court on August 23.

The summons for Contempt was issued following action filed by Saman Ratnapriya, Nalaka Harindrapriya and E. A. Jayasinghe and the President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Government Nursing Officers Association.

They complained to court that Fonterra had violated the court order issued on August 16 preventing the company from distributing or selling its products through agents, as well as any form of advertising in a misleading manner.

Senior Counsel Upul Jayasuriya filing Contempt charges before court stated that Fonterra had violated the court order issued preventing it from releasing its dairy products to the market, distribution and sale. They further complained that the company also violated the order which prohibited it from releasing misleading statements to the media, holding press conferences and distributing hand bills stating that their products did not contain any chemical substance harmful to humans.  (SRF)
