General Sarath Fonseka, who is under military custody, will continue his fast unto death, despite the military providing him telephone facilities today to speak to his children, sources said.

Speaking to Daily Mirror Online, Anoma Fonseka said that her husband had rejected the telephone provided by the army as he insisted he wanted to speak to his two daughters only via his wife’s mobile phone.

“He is continuing his fast. He will only stop if he is allowed to speak to our children through my mobile phone. He does not trust anyone,” Mrs. Fonseka said soon after she visited the General today.

However the army said that following a request made to the authorities, the military had given him the privilege of speaking to his daughters over a mobile phone and insisted that this was an ‘additional’ privilege provided to the General as the Army was not bound by any court order or any other law to facilitate calls between the General and his daughters.
