Member of Parliament General Sarath Fonseka lodged a complaint with Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa this morning saying his parliament privileges have been violated as he has been asked to attend the second Court Martial hearing against him this afternoon despite Parliament sessions ending this evening.

The second court martial hearing into the alleged illegal arms deal conducted by General Sarath Fonseka will resume today. Military Spokesperson Major General Prasad Samarasingha had told Daily Mirror online yesterday that the army had not been informed of any postponement and even though the General decided not to attend, his lawyers would have to be present in order to sit through the court proceedings.

“We do not know whether General Fonseka will attend the court martial but according to the army regulations, the court martial will not be postponed. His lawyers will have to be present when the court martial resumes at 14.00 hours tomorrow,” Major General Samarasingha said.

It is learnt that General Sarath Fonseka has informed the Board of Judges of the Court Martial that he would not attend the inquiry scheduled. (YP/KB)
