The trial-at-bar judges made this direction to prison authorities when Counsel Niroshana Perera defending Sarath Fonseka submitted that Consultant chest physician Vajira Tennakoon who is treating Sarath Fonseka is in the opinion that the present chest ailment of Sarath Fonseka is due to dust. He had said that it was due to the dusty surroundings in which Mr. Fonseka is detained and it is not properly ventilated. He had recommended using an air conditioner to overcome the chest ailment of Mr. Fonseka.
The counsel requested the court to permit at least to use another fan in addition to the one that is presently used by Sarath Fonseka as it is malfunctioning. The defense undertook to provide the additional fan to Sarath Fonseka to Mr Fonseka on the defense’s expenses. (TFT)
