Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama alleged a sinister nexus seems to be surfacing between the JVP-UNP alliance and pro-LTTE groups abroad, which will be detrimental to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka.

In a statement over the recent attempt to burn the Sri Lankan flag at the Sri Lankan High Commission in London, the Foreign Minister cautioned the Sri Lankan expatriates living overseas to be wary of the emerging nexus and extremists groups and ensure that they are not drawn into a trap by extending support to such groups.

Minister Bogollagama said the nexus between the JVP, UNP and LTTE is evident as supporters of the JVP, UNP and LTTE were involved in the attempt to burn the Sri Lankan flag at the Sri Lankan High Commission in London on Independence day.

British Police, who were deployed to the scene, promptly took action to prevent the flag from being destroyed or damaged and took one person into custody. Following this incident, the British Police also dispersed the other protesters immediately.  (Daily Mirror Online)
