Five drown in Kottai Kallaru

Bodies of five persons who were missing since yesterday after their boat capsized in the Kottai Kallaru Lagoon have been recovered, while six persons were rescued by villagers in the area and admitted to the Kalawanchikudy and Batticaloa hospitals. 
 
It is reported that a boat made for the transport of three persons had been filled over capacity before setting out.
 
The Sri Lanka Navy had commenced search and rescue operations in the area as soon as the incident was reported, the Kalawanchikudy police are conducting further investigations. (Daily Mirror online)
