Five-day-week for private sector

The Labour and Labour Relations Ministry is in the process of introducing a five-day week for the private sector and has started discussions with the Employers and the trade Unions, Labour and Labour Relations Minister Gamini Lokuge said.

Some 8 million private sector employees will be benefited from the implementation of the five-day week.

“If the ongoing tripartite dialogue (Employers Federation, Trade Unions and the Ministry) on the issue is concluded successfully, the government will declare a five-day-week for the private sector employees on May 1st, 2011” Minister Lokuge told Daily Mirror yesterday. (SAJ)
