Ferry service postponed

The Ports and Highways Ministry said this morning that the ferry service from Tuticorin harbour in India to Sri Lanka has been postponed following a low demand for the service in India.

A ministry official said that it was due to the lack of publicity given to the service in India. “Once the ferry service is advertised there will be a much bigger demand,” he said.

He also said the service may take over a month to begin. He added that the service will not be advertised in Sri Lanka until Indian officials have fully confirmed when they will begin it. (Olindhi Jayasundere )
