Female vocalist harassed by radio station employee

An employee of a private radio station who had allegedly harassed Sri Lankan pop, R&B and Jazz singer Umaria Sinhawansa at a car park of the World Trade Centre in Colombo was ordered to appear before a Colombo Court on December 14.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate issued notice on Ramsey Jaynoor an employee attached to a private radio channel sequel to a complaint lodged by singer Umaria Sinhawansa. Making a complaint with the Children and Women Bureau of Fort police, the complainant informed that she participated in a television programme along with vocalist Bhathiya Jayakody that was held at a private television station. The complainant said when they were coming back to the car park around 11.00 pm on November 2 the suspect Ramsey Jaynoor had allegedly harassed her by obstructing her way and pulling her hand.  The singer complained the suspect disregarded the advice of the vocalist Bhathiya not to behave in that manner. The complainant further alleged that when she got into the car, the suspect prevented her from moving the vehicle. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
