The National Zoological Gardens Director Anurudda Silva said a 15.5 feet long female anaconda had swallowed a 12 feet long male anaconda this morning soon after they had mated.

“This is a not anything unusual but a habit found among Anacondas. The female Anacondas are normally found to swallow baby Anacondas or their weak siblings,” he said.

The females of the species are larger than the males. This pair of anacondas was brought from the Czech Republic on March 22, 2003. (Chaturanga Pradeep) (Pix by H.M. Dharmapala)
