Fake ballots papers seized in Kantale

A stack of fake ballot papers had been seized from a store in Kantale this morning, Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said.

Trincomalee Assistant Elections Commissioner had informed Kantale Police OIC after he received information about the fake ballot papers at a store near the Clock Tower junction in Kantale.

He said the Police had arrested one suspect and 14,989 of fake ballot papers were found inside the store.

 “The suspect is to be produced in Kantale Magistrate’s Court,” ASP Gunasekara said.

The store had been rented out to Trincomalee District UNP candidate Aruna Sirisena.

Meanwhile, a total of 483 people had been arrested in connection with 158 election law violations, while, 197 other complaints had been received since the declaration of the General Elections, he said.

ASP Gunasekara said 382 people had been arrested in connection with election law violations while 101 suspects were arrested.(DS)
