At least 4 explosion sounds were heard in Jaffna over the past half an hour early this morning, residents in Jaffna told Daily Mirror online. Defence sources said they believe the sounds emanated from devices used to create a large noise but not cause any damage.

Meanwhile military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakara said that a petrol bomb was thrown at one location in Jaffna but it did not cause any damage or casualties.

The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) said that a grenade was thrown at the house of the SLFP Jaffna organizer in Udupiddy this morning. However no one injured in the incident.

Dr. Pakiasothy Saravanamuttu of the CMEV said the SLFP organizer had claimed that he had earlier observed people distributing leaflets calling for the election to be boycotted.
