SLFP member arrested in Batti

A secretary of a former TMVP member, now an SLFP official in the Eastern Province has been arrested in Batticaloa on abduction charges and for having in his possession an illegal weapon. 

Sources in Batticaloa told Daily Mirror online the suspect had abducted a girl in the area at gunpoint prior to his arrest.
 

The police confirmed that an individual was arrested in the area but could not provide details regarding his political affiliations.

The suspect is reported to have had an illegal automatic weapon in his possession as well as a bag containing ammunition. The police are conducting further investigation, police spokesman SSP I.M Karunaratne told Daily Mirror online.. (GS)
