A group of 50 former militants from Niger Delta will be in Sri Lanka for training in boat building, underwater operations, deep sea welding and underwater diving, allafrica.com reported.

“Under the on-going amnesty programme, 50 Niger Delta youths at the weekend left Nigeria for Sri Lanka,” it said.

The training which is expected to take place at the Topher Zhang Vocational Institute in Sri Lanka is to last for six months, according to a statement by the Head of Media and Communications of the Amnesty Office, Mr. Henry Ugbolue.

Addressing the youths before their departure, Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Kingsley Kuku urged them to make judicious use of the opportunity. Kuku, who was represented by Dr. Ferdinand Ikwang, cautioned the ex-militants to be good ambassadors of Nigeria and to study hard to excel and achieve their goals.
