Estate workers warn of union action

The Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) and UNP led Lanka Jathika Estate Workers Union which represents estate workers warned of trade union action if they don’t get a fair deal from the employers by Tuesday.

CWC strongman and Deputy Minister Muttu Sivalingam told a news conference that they would be compelled to take union action if there was no favorable response regarding the daily wages of the estate workers. The unions are currently having discussions on renewing the collective agreement which determines the daily wages of estate workers. (YP)
