More than eight kilos of heroin had been seized at the Thuduwawa coast in the Marawila Police area on Sunday (10), Police said.

The Police said that the street value of the stock had been estimated at Rs. 80 million

“The Police recovered 6.528 kilograms of heroin hidden inside a bush and another two parcels were recovered on Monday (11) containing two kilograms,” the Police said.

The haul of heroin was believed to have been smuggled into the country from India by a boat and brought to Thuduwawa by a raft, the Police said.
The person who drove the raft had been taken into Police custody.

The suspect was produced before the Marawila Magistrate and was kept under detention order, the Police said. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
