Eric Solheim back in SL affairs

The former Norwegian Minister Eric Solheim, who acted as the peace facilitator between the government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE at that time, shared his experience in engaging the Diaspora at a meeting in London, Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera said in Parliament.

Mr. Solheim acted as the peace mediator between the government and the LTTE mainly during the 2002 / 2004 period. He was a witness to the several rounds of peace negotiations between the two sides.

Mr. Samaraweera said in a statement in Parliament last Friday that Mr. Solheim attended the meeting with Global Tamil Forum in London. Along with Mr. Samaraweera, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP M.A. Sumanthiran participated in it

“Mr. Eric Solheim participated briefly on the 1st day to share his experiences in engaging the diaspora,” he said.

A representative from the South African Government and a representative from the Swiss Government were also among them.

Former Norwegian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Tore Hattrem who is now a senior official of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry were among the participants. (Kelum Bandara)
