Employees of Oluvil harbour idle without work: Dayasiri

Hundreds of employees attached to the Oluvil harbour in the east idle today without any productive work to do, and it is one reason for heavy losses being incurred by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, the UNP said in Parliament today.

UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, speaking during the debate on the committee stage of the Ports Development Ministry, noted that that these employees now use their three-wheelers for hire during duty hours.

“These employees have nothing do. They idle there. Therefore, they use three-wheelers to earn extra incomes. This is the tragedy of the Ports Development Ministry. Late Minister A.H.M. Ashraff built this harbour probably with good intentions. But, it has virtually become a white elephant,” he said. (Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera)
