While claiming that it intends to relax or totally remove the ‘Emergency Regulations’ (ER) at the appropriate time, the government said that it was needed at this time for the smooth enforcement of the law.

The government intends to relax or totally remove the ‘Emergency Regulations’ (ER) at the appropriate time, when it considers the ER is not necessary to protect the law and order, cabinet spokesman Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said.

“It is true that the country is enjoying the dividends of peace following the crushing of terrorism. But do not forget there are remnants of the LTTE are still active and the issue of terrorism has not been fully addressed,’ Minister Yapa stressed. (Sandun A. Jayasekera)
