Be patient -SL tells Int'l community

The new Sri Lankan government on Wednesday urged the international community including the human rights community to be patient stating that 'this is a time of fragile transition' in Sri Lanka.


"I urge the international community including the human rights community to be patient. This is a time of fragile transition. The Government of Sri Lanka is committed to the success of this journey of strengthening democracy, good governance and the rule of law while ensuring the promotion and protection of human rights of all her citizens," foreign minister Mangala Samaraweera said.


Addressing a gathering at the prestigious Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, in Washington DC on the theme 'Sri Lanka after the Presidential Election', the minister also said that Sri Lanka would like to see the President of the United States of America visiting Sri Lanka.
