Elephant pays a surprise visit

A wild elephant entered the premises of the Deliwala School in Walapane today which created a tense situation in the area. 
 
According to the police 26 students receives their education at the school. The elephant had come to the playground of the school from a forest nearby. 
 
Following the incident the District Secretary of Nuwara Eliya instructed the authorities to take steps to ensure the security of the students and the teachers of the school. 
 
The Walapane police said that the elephant was chased to the nearby forest with the help of wild life officers and no harm had been done. 
 
According to the police the elephant is believed to have been left behind by his pack. No property was damaged by the wild elephant, the police said.  (Supun Dias and Shelton Hettiarachchi)
