Elephant gets a DNA test

A DNA test had been ordered by a court today on an elephant believed to have been switched prior to the Saman Dewala Perahara.

Colombo Additional Magistrate A.M. Shahabdeen ordered to conduct a DNA test of the elephant.

The Magistrate released two Mahouts on surety bails of Rs. 50,000 and ordered the elephant to be returned to the owner after the Perahera if the test results were consistent.

He stated that the license would not be issued if the test results differed. The case will be called again on October 6.(JG and FT)
